Trevalgue Head (Porth island)

Opposite the private road leading to the house lies Trevalgue Head, also known as Porth Island. On this stunning headland sits the site of an Iron Age Fort with defensive ramparts and two round barrows dating from the early Bronze Age. The South West Coast Path leads to the footbridge over a steep rock gully to access the site, which makes for a hair raising experience.

Whipsiderry beach

Whilst Porth beach is an easy accessible beach, if you fancy experiencing a hidden gem and are feeling energetic. Whipsiderry beach was voted in the top 20 of Europe’s best beaches in the Sunday Times. Within 100 metres of the house, surrounded by cliffs, revealing rock pools and caves at low tide, this is the secret beach loved by the locals, with dogs allowed all year. At low tide the sands stretch around half a mile to Watergate Bay. Access is via steep sets clinging to the cliff face, but is worth the effort to discover Zacry’s islands, Fruitful Cove and Cathedral Cavern.
